The 74th Annual Parliamentary Hearing at the UN, organized in partnership with the UN and the Inter-Parliamentary Union, will be held from February 17 to 18, 2020 in New York.
Annual Parliamentary Hearings is an event organized by the IPU during the General Assembly, where members of parliament gather to exchange views with United Nations officials, representatives of the UN diplomatic community, scholars, and leading academics.
The 2020 Parliamentary Hearing’s theme is “Education as a key to peace and sustainable development: Toward the implementation of SDG 4.” The discussion will mainly focus on methods to realize Sustainable Development Goal 4 (quality education) and call upon the parliamentarians to continue their effort on the agenda. SDG 4 intends to step forward to greater equality through education. It believes that education is the first step to improve economic, social, and environmental conditions. Therefore, the Goal prioritizes guaranteeing a substantial level of education to the developing nations.
Tijjani Muhammad-Bande, the President of the United Nations General Assembly, stated that the event will specifically call for greater political resolve to ensure that the Sustainable Development Goal 4, on education, is fully realized by 2030.
